The Master of Applied Finance is a practical and career-oriented degree at the cutting edge of theory and practice. It is ideal if you are a professional working in finance or a finance-related industry seeking to expand your ability and knowledge in the area. The Master of Applied Finance is normally completed in one year of full-time study, or two years part-time. The maximum time permitted for completion is four years.


Part-time students may only enter at the commencement of Semester One each year (March intake). Please note that international students must undertake postgraduate courses on a full-time basis if in Australia on a student visa.

 

Part-time attendance

The Master of Applied Finance suits the needs of working finance professionals. Classes are held at the University’s Parkville campus commencing at 6.15pm. You are required to attend classes two evenings per week for three hours each evening. The combination of work and study provides the opportunity to draw clear connections between the program and your employment. Some subjects may also be offered in intensive mode, such as over three successive weeks, and may include weekends.

 

Full-time attendance

The Master of Applied Finance program can be completed on a full-time basis in nine months, if you wish to take a break from your career or are sponsored by your organisation. It provides experienced professionals with an opportunity to focus exclusively on your studies and return quickly to the workforce. Evening classes provide the opportunity for full-time and part-time participants to interact. Full-time students are required to attend 12 hours of classes per week. It is anticipated that you will spend about 30 additional hours per week undertaking private study and class assignments.

 

Who should apply?

The Master of Applied Finance is designed for practitioners with a degree, and three or more years’ experience in financial management and/or financial decision-making. You will gain an insight into financial management principles and their application to corporate financial policy, and will develop an understanding of derivatives and the operation of the markets in these assets.

The Master of Applied Finance program meets the academic requirements to upgrade membership to Certified Finance Treasury Professional status of the Finance and Treasury Association.
