The Postgraduate Diploma in Finance comprises the first year of the Master of Finance course. It offers flexibility if you are seeking a shorter graduate qualification in finance. You can apply to transfer to the Master of Finance if you wish to gain the additional benefits offered by the two-year degree course.


The Postgraduate Diploma in Finance is eight subjects in duration, and is normally completed in one year of full-time study or two years part-time. The maximum time permitted for completion is four years.

To be considered for admission to the Postgraduate Diploma in Finance, you must satisfy the following requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, with some studies in finance

Each subject involves doing three contact hours on campus (lectures, seminars, tutorials), and it is recommended that you do an additional 5 - 7 hours of independent study per week per subject.
Evening classes normally commence at 6.15pm and are held at the University of Melbourne’s Parkville campus. The majority of core subjects are offered both during the day and the evening; depending on availability of elective subjects you may be required to attend a day time class at some point in your enrolment. Some subjects are available on an intensive basis and these may involve day or weekend classes.
